We share our home with Samantha the wonder dog and she's a mixed breed with some pit bull, some corgi, and some hound. She also gets violently car sick - oh, yeah, the vet said she would outgrow it, but she's 11 now so I'm not sure when she's going to outgrow it. We fantasize about traveling with Sam, but have to settle for traveling vicariously.
Here's a blog you have to read - Marking Our Territory is the story of Will Kearney, 25 year old NJ native, and his beautiful Rhodesian Ridgeback named Eko. In their blog, Will recounts the adventures he and Eko have as they explore new places and meet new people.
I love this blog because not only can I explore great places vicariously, but I also get peaks at beautiful photography and terrific writing. Will and Eko travel to lots of pet-friendly places and provide a ton of great ideas of fun things to do with your pet. I think you should check out their blog!

My 8 year old Bogart, a Maltese, has the same problem. I have tried several cures like having him in his bed while riding but no help. I think some people and dogs just can't outgrow it.
That is pretty awesome that you'd share someone else's blog. Sometimes you can really find some great writers (bloggers) and photography from people that are not well known by others.
Leslie - we have tried sedating her, with moderate success. We also find wide open windows helps.
John - it's a fantastic blog, and you'll understand why I recommend it so highly when you check it out!
Good day Wayne and Jeanne. My Finn is no good in the car either. I have three and he is scared and sick without any solution either. Your wonder dog is great. I will check out the blog. Thanks.
Wayne and Jean, there is nothing more frustrating than not being able to take even the shortest trip with your dog. We've always been fortunate that our dogs have outgrown the car sickness, although I know so many never outgrown it.
our kids love the car, but they both are over 100 lbs. so we travel to the vet or the border with them only.
My dogs used to get car sick. One of my vets is a homeopatic/regular vet. He prescribed a remedy of bach flowers to be given 30 minutes prior to leaving, 15 minutes prior to leaving and 5 minutes prior to leaving. It worked. I was lucky afterwards and they outgrew it.
Several years ago I adopted a dog, her foster mom said she was always carsick. I took her for a several hour trip the first weekend I had her, along with her two new friends who loved road trips. She threw up once at the beginning of that trip and that was the end of it. She became as much of a roadie as my other two. Maybe if yours could find a roadie friend?
