Union County Homes: Cranford Real Estate Market Update for October 2016

Cranford Real Estate Market Update for October 2016

The Township of Cranford is nearly 5 square miles located exactly in the middle of Union County.

First incorporated as a town in 1871, Cranford is still a thriving and growing community.  In the late 1800's through the first few decades of the 1900's, Cranford was a resort destination.  With railroad access to and from New York City, many wealthy city dwellers would spend summers in Cranford, enjoying the warm days along the Rahway River.  Many of the early residents of Cranford were wealthy commuters that worked in New York City.  Today, commuting into New York City is easy from Cranford with several bus routes as well as trains running to Newark-Penn all day and New York-Penn during non-peak hours.

Today the town has a population of just over 22,000.  It is home to main campus of Union County College and also houses the William Miller Sperry Observatory, home of the 2nd largest telescope in New Jersey.  Just a block away from the Union County College campus is Dreyer Farms.  Dreyer's is the only vegetable farm still operating in Union County.

Downtown Cranford is a thriving business community that has lots of unique shopping as well as many quality restaurants that represent many different cuisines. Cranford residents can go into town, go to the post office, do their banking, have a nice dinner, do some shopping and then catch a movie.  The downtown really has everything.

Cranford has an excellent school district.  The high school is know for its excellence in sports as well as its academic and music programs.  There are also two middle schools and four elementary schools.

The housing market is thriving in Cranford!  Many homes are on the market for only a few days before the bidding wars start.
